Oregon Coast

We’ve come to the end of our stay in Portland, time to head someplace warmer and dryer. We had one last family activity. We went to Topgolf to hangout, hit a few golfballs, and watch Kristen try to swing a club with Charlotte strapped to her back. The staff weren’t too happy about that and we persuaded Kristen to pass the baby around when it was her turn.

It was fun and a good way to get out when it was rainy.  Kristen, Tyrel and Charlotte left at 5 am the next day, and after Liz and Jerel shared some Blue Star donuts with us, it was our turn to say goodbye.

We’ll miss all the Oregon forests

Since we had a late start, we didn’t want to go to far. Newport Or. was only 180 miles and a nice drive to the coast. They had an RV park right next to the water and right next to Rogue Brewing.

We decided to spend three days there and the weather was great. Once there, we drove out along the coast. We were able to spot grey whales heading south, and a few seals out in the rocks, and lot of gorgeous coastline. With new years coinciding with a full moon, the low tide at the Devils Punchbowl made it easy to walk down into it.

We were able to catch a great last sunset of the year.

Exploring the tide pools

With a forecast of rain returning, we pulled the slides in, and continued south. After an extremely long day of curvy and sometimes very narrow roads, we ended up in Napa, Ca. We had been to the same campground last summer. The campground is part of a nature preserve, and while the camping area wasn’t hit, the hills were burned in the fires this last fall. They had just reopened the camping, but the trails were still being repaired.

While in the bay area, we visited my Brother and his family, played tourists and went downtown, drove down Lombard street (in the car), and went across the Golden Gate bridge.

With the weather forecast showing rain, we were ready to head south again (this month’s theme by the way).

Stay tuned. . .
