With the test at Barber completed, it was time to move on. Though, not too far. The next event will be the first race of the season and it is at Road Atlanta, a track only 180 miles away. We needed to go someplace that we had full hookups and easy access. So, 60 miles down the road we stopped in Anniston. 
We stayed here last year after the last round and knew it was a good place. The campgrounds only real drawback is that it backs up to the highway and on the other side has a very busy road. this means that there’s lots of road noise during the day. To mitigate that, we go out and do stuff. Just to the east of us is a great mountain bike area that also has hiking so we hit that up last friday. 
Saturday we drove up to Cheaha State Park on Cheaha Mountain. This is the highest point in Alabama at 2400 feet. Yeah it’s not Colorado heights, but who knew Alabama had mountains.
They also try to claim that Bigfoot is in the area, but everyone knows that he lives in Portland. After climbing up the overlook, we headed to some trails in the Talladega National Forest. The trail took is to a couple of different falls. 
Cheaha Falls, and Devil’s Den Falls. The hike was great and spring is definitely in bloom here.
The town of Anniston is an old Iron Mill town and has a lot of great old buildings downtown, they also have a lot of railroad lines. 
One of them has been converted to a trail that connects Anniston to Atlanta, Ga. Sunday afternoon we decided to explore a portion that goes from Piedmont to the Georgia state line. 
It was a 14 mile ride uphill to the state line, and then 14 miles back down. It’s a very scenic trail with lots of history. We plan to be here until Thursday, and then we’ll inch a bit closer to Atlanta.
