Austin to High Point

It’s 1300 miles from Austin to the next round at Virginia International Raceway (VIR) near Danville Virginia. We left Austin around noon on Monday and made it to a rest area near Texarkana. img_1011I had hoped to get further, but we were tired and the rest area was perfect place since we could stop and put the slide out. Tuesday we got back on the road. Pretty soon we were crossing Arkansas headed towards Little Rock and then on I-40 towards Memphis. The was our first time in this state so we get to put another sticker on the map. We crossed the Mississippi into Memphis. img_1013img_1014Crossing this river never gets old and it has a different look every time. This time it was definitely swollen with the spring runoff.  We made it do a KOA in Hurricane Mills Tennessee.  This was a nice place but a little bit small for our 40 foot home. img_1017The location is famous for the Loretta Lynn ranch and that evening we decided to eat at Loretta’s Kitchen under the assumption that we would find some good country food. Boy was that a disappointment. Next time we’ll follow the local recommendation for a different place called the Log Cabin.

Wednesday we got rolling again and after going through Nashville and Knoxville crossed over the Smokey Mountain Range into North Carolina.img_1020 We stopped at another KOA just before Ashville and decided to check out the eastern New Belgium brewery. img_1028Ashville is pretty much like Boulder Co in North Carolina. Thursday we woke up and had an easy drive to High Point. We’ve stayed at this campground before and it’s a good place to hang out for the weekend.img_1032 Much needed shopping is close by and there are some nice trails to ride on. We even took a trip up to Winston to meet up with friends and check out some local brews.img_1034img_1038 Tomorrow morning we’ll head up to the track and get back to work.
